If you have teenagers you know they live in a different world. The clothes they wear (why do they wear their pants around their ankles?), the music they listen to, the things they think are fun (hangin’ out with my peeps, what exactly does that mean?), the way they use technology (100 texts a day is not unusual), the idealistic view of life and of course the way they use the English language can all be quite vexing.

It is almost impossible to keep up with it all, but take heart: a great resource is the CPYU center. What is the CPYU center? It stands for Center for Youth/Parent Understanding. The leaders are folks who are parents, pastors and teachers. They have been in the thick of the fight on different fronts for years and know what it is like to have a son or daughter you suddenly fail to understand.

They produce podcasts, magazines and email updates to help you cope with the difficulties of parenting teens. Below are some links to their resources:

I am half way through my 90 challenge to myself and I must admit change is much harder than I anticiapted.  I have chosen six areas to focus on, they are:

  • Physical
  • Financial
  • Family
  • Spiritual
  • Proessional
  • Personal

I have had much success in four of the six areas.  I started off strong in all of the areas, but life happened and I was not able to allocate as much time to all of the areas as I had hoped.  I would say that overall I am pleased with where I am, but as always could be doing better.

I think I bit off more than I could chew with choosing big changes in all six areas.  If I could do it again I would have chosen smaller goals for all six areas and chosen two areas to make the huge changes in and focused on those, while making more moderate changes in the other areas.

But that is how you learn, persevere, persevere, persevere is the key.  More later on some of my successes and failures.  Change only happens with action, so choose to act today.  You never know, you could be in a totally different place tomorrow if you act today! Try it and let me know how it goes.

Part of my 90 days to change involves doing things I enjoy and golf is certainly one of them. I found this nifty site, www.oobgolf.com that allows me to track my golf game simply and easily. It is fantastic! I haven’t gotten to record many scores yet, but enough to get an idea of my game.

One thing I have done is this past year is to try and play at least once every week since April. My game is not great, but so much better than it was when I started playing again with consistency. And I have found that consistency has been the key to improving and to giving myself a chance to score. I think there is a great deal of application to life; be consistent in all you do and improvement will be made.

So with my 90 days of change will include a great deal of consistency: exercise, reading, working, planning, praying, family time all of these and more are areas where I am convinced I can see great strides if I am consistent and do a little at a time with regularity. I am tracking my golf game and my life! More later.

Today is the first day of my personal 90 days challenge.  If my math is correct my 90 days will end just before Christmas.  As I blogged yesterday, one of the things you need to do is access where you at the moment. Here is my assessment.  I recommend doing what Stephen Covey suggests in his wonderful book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, and begin with the end in mind.  That is the reason why I started with my desired outcomes, or goals. I have already addressed the major areas of need and here they areas:

  • Physical
  • Financial
  • Personal
  • Spiritual
  • Professional
  • Family

If you read my 90 Days to Change Plan, you will notice that each task, event or project I want to accomplish corresponds to one of these major areas.  So here we go on the 90 days to change.

If you need anymore evidence that things are out of control in Denver just watch this video. The Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall was suspended for the rest of the regular season due to “insubordination” by new head coach Josh McDaniels. Marshall’s behavior this off season has been less than exemplary, but he is the only player with superstar quality left on a woeful Denver Bronco team.

Since McDaniels has come to Denver he has swapped a young quarterback who has superstar potential for a journeyman quarterback who has never gotten the job done, alienated the Bronco fan base, been less than forthcoming with the media and now has decided to play hardball with a player he desperately needs. Instead of disrespecting Marshall during the off-season and during training camp, why didn’t he attempt to build a relationship, especially after the debacle with Cutler? The answer is this kid is in way over his head.

This Bronco fan is hoping for a quick exit to this fiasco called the Josh McDaniels era. Maybe several straight blow out losses will rid the once great Bronco franchise of this inept coach so that the team can get to doing what it does best, contend for the AFC west division. Otherwise, you can expect a long, cold winter. Anyone know where Mike Shanahan is right now??????

If you are not listening to podcasts then you are missing out on wonderful world of information, entertainment and just a bunch of fun!  Podcasts are like personal radio shows that anyone can make and anyone can listen to, usually free of charge.  The easiest way to access and listen to podcasts is via Itunes and the companion Ipods.

One of my favorites is this podcast, The Daily Breakfast.  The podcast is hosted by a Dutch priest who gives his views on technology, health, video games,movies, how to use technology in spreading the Gospel and whatever else is on his mind.  While I am not Catholic, I love this podcast, check out and leave a comment if you like it or want more info on podcasting.  Happy listening (and viewing).
